A Case Study of Point-of-Care Technology and Resulting Improvements at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center
Approximately one year after initially implementing MedAptus’ point-of-care Charge Capture and Dictation applications, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center undertook an analysis of system usage and results within an initial group of clinical users. This analysis revealed that users, on average, had experienced an increase in gross charges of nine percent, which represents an improvement of between $25,000-$85,000 per clinician. This equates to a potential $24,000,000 gross annualized revenue gain across the institution once MedAptus is implemented enterprise-wide. M. D. A Point-of-Care Charge Capture Case Study at Dedham Medical Associates (DMA)
In the late 1990’s Dedham Medical Associates (DMA) started to assess the feasibility of moving to an electronic medial records system. During this assessment, DMA uncovered an issue with its charge capture process: a serious lag time between charge entry and submission as well as a high number of claim denials. This all led DMA to explore moving charge capture to the point-of-care. Advanced Charge Capture and Compliance Rolled Into One at University Physician Associates of New Jersey (UPA)
University Physician Associates of New Jersey (UPA) is the faculty practice plan of New Jersey Medical School. In 2002, its executive team recognized the need to decrease administrative costs for billing and coding, while at the same time expanding its comprehensive compliance program based on governmental regulations. After only three-months of using MedAptus, its chosen solution, a pilot group of physicians improved gross charge collection by 13 percent, or $38,000 per user, and reduced days to payment by 15 days. Re-engineering Charge Capture and Review Processes at Lahey Clinic
An independent study of MedAptus’ electronic charge capture solution at Lahey Clinic, a large, multi-specialty practice and inpatient hospital, demonstrated the application was responsible for eliminating lost charges. In addition, the practice was able to reduce its time to charge capture to less than one day and decrease its average days to payment by more than 10 percent.
