During our most recent Medaptus Academy, our General Manager, Malachi Charbonneau and  Senior Clinical Implementation Consultant, Jeff Cibotti, hosted a session on a customer favorite: our patient assignment solution, Assign. This session was interesting, as our Academy has been geared towards our Charge Pro customers. We decided to open the agenda and host two sessions on Assign this year to bring value to our customers.

Why Having a Patient Assignment Solution is Important

Malachi started the presentation by describing Assign’s benefits and how it could help solve major problems for your organization, such as reducing the time and manual work involved in creating your daily rounding list.

Making your list manually runs the risk of being prone to errors, not being on time, and not getting the most up-to-date information compared to having a system that can automatically make a list for you.

What We’ve Learned from Shadowing Hospitalists’ Workflows

Jeff explained what and who we shadow when we visit customers on site. Below are enhancements to Assign that we have created based on feedback from our customers:

  • Using a Primary Care Physician – the patients’ PCP facility or doctor can provide valuable clinical information for the Assign list maker, and we can use this data to assign the patient to the correct team or flag certain patients.
  • Destination / Pre-Assignment Value – Assign pending transfer patients based on where they are going to, not where they currently are. This helps keep track of where a patient is, and where they are going.
  • Hospitalist relationship – Part of an implementation that will use this relationship to establish patient-provider care based on the hospitalist going into the software and assigning themselves to the patient so they can keep track of their patients.
  • Outbound EHR Integration – Through our interface update, we use HL 7 ADT. We can send back who the attending or consulting physician is to your EHR so all systems are in sync. Nurses know who is responsible for care, and you don’t have to manually go into the system and update the attending physician anymore.

All of these new updates help save clinical time and reduce confusion. When you try to do this process manually, there can be a lot of pings, phone calls, and texts if someone isn’t sure who is taking care of a patient.

Other Impact Areas

Malachi explains the impact areas of Assign that go beyond the clinical impact.
