The patient assignment process can be difficult and complex, especially when you want to create rounding lists that make sense for physicians and for patient care. The last thing you want is your physicians rounding on patients on multiple floors or units; missing a patient; or not evenly balancing workloads amongst hospitalists. But unfortunately, these challenges are the reality for a lot of hospitalists today. Many physicians themselves – especially nocturnists – have to spend hours on the patient assignment process once their shift is over, which is labor and time intensive.
